The presentation at Naprzeciw Gallery is her first solo exhibition in Poland.
Sophia Pompéry is interested in the annotation of space. For her site specific interventions she uses different media, as photography, film, typography or sound.
"In my work I try the impossible by avoiding images. I try to reach something wich is completely paradoxal to the act of creation. And of course I fail, because at the end of a working process there is a work which appears allways by an image.I am interested in a site specific and time specific art which contains in the already existing: I think that one can find everywhere something aestheticly interesting, beeing conscious about what one is looking at. So my task consists in the act of showing the observed. At the beginning this led to different series of documentary photos. Later I decided to intervene directly in space: Instead of a photo documentation, I showed the observed in realtime. With "Periscope" at Naprzeciw I confront these two strategies. It is a play on the distortion between site specificity and its representation."
